Hooks
Shio is somewhat shy and high alert in large crowds due to being from outside of the city and having limited contact with civilization. He can be prone to running off without saying anything if startled, so it would be best if he approaches others. However, if one would like to approach him...
The Azim Steppe: Shio is fond of the Steppe and his time spent there, and he loves to talk about their faith and culture.
Astrology/Mythology: Anything about the stars fascinates Shio and while he's devoted most of his life to learning about different astrological systems and the beliefs surrounding him, he's always eager to share his knowledge and to learn more.
Aether/Aetherochemical Research: Having volunteered for the Garlean's Resonance experiment, Shio has found his powers and connection to the aether of the world and people around him to lead him down interesting avenues of research and study.
Resonance
In an attempt to replicate the Echo possessed by some members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the Garleans launched an experimental initiative project named "Resonance" in where they aimed to reproduce the effects of the Echo. Due to prolonged experimentation over at least ten years, his resonance has developed more "side-effects" that are both beneficial and detrimental.He possesses heterochromia iridium as a result, with his left eye now being a teal color similar to aether itself; his hair and ears also possesses teal-colored sections.
Powers/Abilities
Aetheric Synesthesia: He is able to visually and auditorily perceive elemental currents in most environments, and can also perceive people who are drawing on those currents to cast magic. This allows him to see a sort of 'aura' resonating outward from most people. He perceives these as misty tendrils in the environment around him, usually having a range of high pitched noises.
Clairsentience: Due to having such strong connections to aether, he is able to detect fluctuations in aether of the people around him due to health or emotional state.
Overflow: Every now and again, the experimental echo granted from his resonance will cause a well of aether to erupt from his body, exploding out of him in a small radius. He will faint and he may cause harm to those around him.
Gifted Diviner/Fortune teller: As a result of his close ties to aether, Shio has spent much of his life researching the stars and different cultural beliefs about the twelve. He is known to give readings to people based on their auras, the position of the stars at the current time, and birth dates.
Shiorre was born under the full moon in the Veira homeland in South Othard, and raised among his own kind in relatively quiet peace until the time came for him to be extracted from his tribe for training in order to defend the jungle.In the beginning, he accepted this with relative ease, until he started to grow homesick. When he was told that the duty of Viera men was to live on the borders of the jungle and defend their tribes from intruders for the rest of his life, he expressed extreme disdain and chose exile in order to explore the world around him.He first traveled to Azim Steppe where he spent the next 10 years of his life living off of the land and spending time sparring with the Dotharl. It is here that he finalized the dancer training shared with him in the Viera homeland of South Othard, and where he became increasingly interested in the astrology of the Azim Steppe.After leaving the Azim Steppe, he traveled to Ilsabard, where he spent a few years training under Thavnarian dancers in order to hone his craft before eventually volunteering for Garlemald's experimental resonance program.When Shio got to Garlemald, he found it difficult to leave; people there seemed to be obsessed with him and his kind, and he would frequently see many Garlean men courting Viera women who had elected to leave the comfort of the homeland.After 10 years of being experimented on like a lab rat and successfully retaining some semblance of the artificial echo that the Garleans were trying to create, Shio ran for his life, not stopping until he had passed through Gyr Abania and reached Coerthas. It was here that he eventually settled and learned the ways of Sharlayan astrology, and was soon conscripted in the Dragonsong War as a soldier of Ishgard. Whilst fighting the Dragonsong war he learned of Red Mages, and since he had been experiencing issues with being unable to control the large amounts of aether his body produced due to the experiments that had been run on him decades prior, he elected to travel to Thanalan and pursue that line of magic as well.After having his fill of the world, he used the "sight" his Resonance had given him alongside the knowledge he had collected over the years about the different beliefs of The Twelve across races and cultures to devise a method of fortune-telling, combining astrological star position with the content of a person's aether; this became his main line of work before he was permanently hired by a company of bounty hunters, which he now relies on as his personal base of operations.Nowadays in his downtime, he explores the world, and while he may not know many people, he's always open to new experiences.
Lobeaux Lounent
Shio and Lobeaux (Or lebob, or leboob) have a complicated and tumultuous relationship. They met during adolescence around the time of the Dragonsong War and have been nearly inseparable ever since. At the very least, they're definitely brothers-in-arms; at most, they're brothers. Sometimes Shio wonders about how long Lobeaux's lifespan is, and is scared to broach the fact that he might outlive his Elezen friend.
